FAQ for Parents

Who is eligible to apply?

All Texas public school–eligible children (Pre K to 12) qualify; there is no income cap. However, priority is given to students with disabilities and low- to moderate-income families StatesmanSan Antonio Express-News+2 The Tenney School+2.

When can we apply?

The program launches in the 2026–27 school year. The state comptroller must finalize rules and open the application portal by May 15, 2026, with applications expected to begin before school enrollment decisions TCDDChronStatesman.

How much funding is available?

Eligible students generally receive around $10,000–$10,900/year; students with disabilities may qualify for up to $30,000/year; homeschooling families may receive $2,000/year The Texas TribuneSan Antonio Express-NewsStatesman.

How will the funds be disbursed?

Funds are managed via an Education Savings Account, overseen by the Texas Comptroller. A certified service provider will administer payments to approved educational vendors—not directly to families TCDDSan Antonio Express-News.

Do private schools have to participate?

No. Participation is voluntary. To accept ESA funds, schools must be accredited, operational for at least two years, and approved by the comptroller’s office San Antonio Express-Newsnews4sanantonio.com.
